How we studied the neuronal aspect of habituation and dishabituation

How do we explain complex behaviour based on neuronal firing?

Pre-requisites of habituation

Find an organism, whose behaviour is modifiable, [Aplysia]

did on defensive withdrawal reflex, natural reason that they need to be quick. When the three sides left are stimulated then the gills are contracted. They have photosensitive films, because they are photo-sensitive.

High stimulations are not used because they may involve, multiple neuron, they wanted to study the simple reflex, and presenting a high stimulus, can also act for sensitization.

rest of 122 m, gave the around initial response, but also a dishabituation stimulus, for 2 min, gave the same initial response later.

what was the dishabituation stimulus?: somewhere else, in the skin, a novel stimulus.

talked about the recovery, period graph, multiple slugs.

Stimulus dependent habituation.

strong stimulus, is the response due to habituation or fatigue? graph 2 explains it: if it was due to fatigue then the spontaneous contraction would have dropped like the reflex contraction  but it didn't happen, thus it was due to habituation and not because of fatigue.

9 points of Thompson: showed 6 of them, 1. response decrement. 2. spontaneous restoration, 3. dishabituation with a novel stimulus, 4. habituation, seen with shorter stimulus interval, rather than longer interval stimulus.

A symptomatic thing.

2nd paper,

semi intact preparation, not the whole animal, 2 preparation: only the abdominal ganglion was kept , the other, a whole slug was kept in the aquarium.

how they found that L7 is major for motor contraction? or reflex, they hit the shipon and inserted an electrode to all the motor neuron, and checked all the motor neurons.
